The dead end pages are [almost] eliminated. I couldn't think of anything to link from "safety glasses" or "BBCode".

Re: State of the Wiki: December 2012
Lol the Wiki…
I’ve made the following changes so far. You can track it in the Wiki, but I figured I’d post for convenience since I have multiple points for clarification or discussion.
Can we tag sections with questions (intended to elicit elaboration) like you can do on Wikipedia? If so, how? There were places in the event pages I worked on that could be fleshed out.
Daniel Wright Middle School doesn’t exist. I can’t change the page name, but it’s Daniel Wright Junior High School. I know this well.
MagLev
I went here first to see an example of a 'good' page, a division C one. It was a nightmare! The content is good, but the writing needed a LOT of cleaning up. I didn't rewrite anything so much as fix the conventions. It reads far better now. Few things...
-question: does the test account for ‘about half’ or literally half of the score?
-is the mass of the car recommendation one made by an expert?
Prior to what season was CB known as SCB? Prior to the 2012 season? I don't remember when they dropped the 'Science' part.
Food Sci
I mostly cleaned up the writing save for maybe two or three erroneous points. It wasn't bad.
-included a large copy/paste job from the rules for how to build the viscosity testing device, which violates SO copyright. Someone should paraphrase that section and add that to the page.
-not sure if it mentions outright that a mystery liquid from the Approved List of Ingredients will be provided
-needs to explain what a free aldehyde is
-missing some topics including any nutrititon calcs or standard curve
--I've considered making a mock-up one; I may still do it...
What term would you use for an event that does not seem to ever rotate out like CB or Exp Design? ‘Recurring’? ‘Perennial’?
The editing the page screen mentions SO copyrights, a page that doesn’t exist. Is it supposed to? On the note of copyrights, how do you deal with figures? Learning event pages have them for sure. Where do they come from? They’re probably copyrighted.
As just a general comment, there are a few naming conventions folks should take note of, like the fact that ‘Trial Event’ is capitalized. Other than that, all I've effectively done is clean up the writing in MagLev and Food Sci. There's a long way to go, and it won't all get done now. I should do Egg Drop at some point...that page is empty.

List events that call for each number of eye protection in their respective sections? I assume those events link TO that page in the first place.twototwenty wrote:The dead end pages are [almost] eliminated. I couldn't think of anything to link from "safety glasses" or "BBCode".

As far as the MagLev page:
1.) Yes, the test is about half of the score...I believe it is 50 out of a possible 110 points.
2.) I deleted the part about the recommended mass...that is no longer relevant or true with the current rules.

1) CB was known as SCB in the 2009-2010 season last.Skink wrote: Prior to what season was CB known as SCB? Prior to the 2012 season? I don't remember when they dropped the 'Science' part.

2) I would just use recurring.
3) Everything SO is copyrighted. There's a copyright statement somewhere on the soinc page; I'll find it later.
EDIT: Copyright page

Re: State of the Wiki: December 2012
I was the one who wrote the bulk of the Food Science page last year. And I'm still on the event this year (yay!)
Whoops that was me. Don't know what I was thinking. I'll fix it up more this year.
I fixed the whole Daniel Wright thing for you, Skink. You could have done it yourself using the "move" page.

I could probably do Junkyard 2010... I did pretty well in it.

Re: State of the Wiki: December 2012
forever-thanks, and I'm aware of that page. The question was about the red linked Wiki page called SO copyrights somethingorother. Is that supposed to exist?
EDIT: I think that's been covered now.
Red-thanks. I wasn't aware of the function of the Move link.

Re: State of the Wiki: December 2012
I'm not sure how much of this has been addressed already but I will answer some of the questions that have come up:
For out-of-rotation pages: Obviously the priority should be on in-rotation events. The out-of-rotation ones are still there because there's a chance they'll be needed in the future and they should be fixed up when that time arrives. Also, classifying an article as a stub, or incomplete, etc, automatically classifies it under "Needs Work", and I went through nearly all of the Wiki this fall when I was creating those categories. But no, they don't need to be worked on immediately.
For converting tests to PDFs: We are considering converting some of the tests on the exchange to PDF (for several reasons) However, this would be an administration-only job to make sure that no data is lost or changed and the final decision has not yet been made.
For in-text questions: This appears to be done on Wikipedia through templates that we don't have. The need hasn't arisen for us to create them, but if there are some you'd like to use it doesn't appear to be a very difficult template to make.
I am very impressed with the number of edits while I was gone, so I think I'll leave again and see if this trend continues.

So foreverphysics does the PDF thing. Thought you didn't want to. Whatever.
