Though, Battle looks to be REALLY nice. It's a fricken space station.

Meikeru, which school are you from?

Okay, official results are up!

http://web.mst.edu/~pringle/science_oly ... 3/Results/

Man, Waynesville was one point away from state! And I didn't do as bad as I thought in thermo! How is that possible since I completely failed the test!? And I think I saw you at thermodynamics Meikuru? Or it could have been the gold team. Either way, congrats at making state!

Good job to everyone! :)

Well, I left at least 3 questions blank but still got 2nd in Thermodynamics. Probably because of a good prediciton.

Yeah, but we left the entire short answer section blank cause we ran out of time. We were three degrees off, what about you? We over guessed because we thought the room temperature would play a bigger part, but I guess it didn't. Nice job on second!

We were only 1.5 degrees off, I think.

Also, the ice water bonus was really nice. No one else in the same testing period decided to add it. (Probably because the confusion about the starting temperature.)

Oh hey, you were in my testing period! The starting temp thing was messed up, but I was guessing that would happen cause it's hard to keep the water at a constant temperature. And the whole metal thing, that would've sucked if that team hadn't shown the guy that website. Three of the four teams had aluminum foil (including us)!

I was in the first session.

Ours had aluminum foil as well. And it was my team that pointed it out.

They shouldn't have let us write down our starting temperatures because the starting temperature IS 82 point something degrees. Some energy will be conducted to the beaker.

Yup, so was I. And thanks for pointing it out, I didn't actually realize which team it was. But we were the first to get the water, and I don't think it actually was 82 degrees. It was impossible for it to go from 82 to 64(what ours was at) in less than two minutes, right? I know some energy would be conducted through the beaker, or during the short walk from the water thingy to our device, but not twenty degrees!?

Fairly sure that pretty much everybody used aluminum foil. How did you guys set up your aluminum foil? Was it touching the beaker or not?

135scioly: When I tested it at home that is what happens, which is why my beaker never got above 82 degrees. ( We eventually used my partner's device, and he used the correct way.)

I think ours is touching the rim, but not the whole beaker.
