Re: Experimental Design B/C
Regression analysis is very quick on a calculator. Even by hand, it doesn't take too long. You should also be prepared to do transformations and do non-linear regressions.

Re: Experimental Design B/C
Unless the rules have changed, you have the option to either do regression analysis calculations or draw a line of best fit. In my opinion drawing a line of best fit is much easier and saves a lot of time. If your experiment set-up allows for it just go for the line of best fit so you have more time to work on the other topics.

Re: Experimental Design B/C
The rules are pretty unclear on the need for a regression analysis but the latest rubric seems to indicate that a regression analysis is necessary to earn all 4 points under Div. C. only statistics.

The rubric looks the same as last year, and I think it''s last been updated 2/29/12 (because it says something like that in the URL). Does this mean the rubric will be the same as last year, or does it still need to be updated?BlueRed07 wrote:The rules are pretty unclear on the need for a regression analysis but the latest rubric seems to indicate that a regression analysis is necessary to earn all 4 points under Div. I think it means that it will stay the same. There isn't much that they can change when it comes to changing grading a lab report. But at the same time, do they usually update it annually? I would just keep your eyes out for an updated version.mnstrviola wrote: The rubric looks the same as last year, and I think it''s last been updated 2/29/12 (because it says something like that in the URL). Re: Experimental Design B/C
Experimental Design(B Division) is one of my "new" events this year, so I was wondering if there are any important things I should know while doing this event.
Can someone with a lot of experience with this event give me some tips and specific info about this event that is not generally introduced in the event packages on the website?
Thanks

I suggest starting at our Experimental Design Wiki.

Usually the event supervisor gives you an outline. Just follow the outline, and as long as you know what each category means (ex. controlled variable, analysis of data, etc) you should be fine. like the guy above me said, this site's wiki is good.

Re: Experimental Design B/C
Well again, have you had a chance to look at the Experimental wiki, or the event rules yet? Do you have an idea of which part you're going to do, because there are a lot of different things that you have to pay attention to depending on which part you do. I don't wan to be giving you the wrong advice.
But good luck to you on your first year.
