Yes, since this year was the first year for food borne illness and the topics usually stay on for 2 years. Good thing, since I'm really interested in this topic!Epidemiologist wrote:I guess I'll just get together material and whatnot for the year. My coaches are going to the thingie at Arizona in the summer, so I should have a head start on the rules, and only then will I start studying. Also, does anyone know if it's going to stay foodborne disease next year for Disease Detectives?

Actually, based on the tentative schedule, Wheeled Vehicle is replacing Mousetrap in Div C. However, Mousetrap is replacing Battery Buggy in Div B.

Forensics; You guys didn't already have mixtures? In Science Crime Busters, in middle school, we had mixtures, even at Regionals... It was by far the hardest part.
Mousetrap Vehicle; Can someone describe the new event? Is it only going to be a slight variation?
Disease Detectives; I'm glad it's staying the same, Foodborne Disease is on of the "funnest" sub-sections, but hopefully after that they can do a very specific type event, like parasitic worms or prionic diseases.

I believe mixtures were in the rules a few years ago, then they replaced it with water testing (fml) and they cut that this year. But I'm pretty sure the mixtures you got in B are nothing like the mixtures we'll get in C. The B powders are extremely simple.Epidemiologist wrote:Forensics; You guys didn't already have mixtures? Re: Summer SO Preperation
I heard that Forensics is WAY WAY WAY harder than SciCri.... but I agree that the mixtures are by far one of the hardest parts for me, although my partner can usually ID them really quickly by just looking at them under a hand lens or running a few really quick tests.personasaurus rex wrote:I believe mixtures were in the rules a few years ago, then they replaced it with water testing (fml) and they cut that this year. Re: Summer SO Preperation
Water Testing was like suicide, I'll have to read the rules on Forensics... although I kind of decided to step away from it after an epic fail (58) at nationals. For whatever reason, although it's not the hardest event, it really tends to stress me out.personasaurus rex wrote:I believe mixtures were in the rules a few years ago, then they replaced it with water testing (fml) and they cut that this year. Re: Summer SO Preperation
Does anyone know if Rocks and Minerals is going to be a legitimate or trial event next year? If it is, I found a very nice pocket field guide that I'm currently studying from.
I haven't studied over the summer in the past, but I may start this year. 2010-2011 was my first year of C division, so I guess I probably should start studying, huh.

I thought it was going to be a legit event, but feel free to correct me, since the ID events are on rotation, aren't they?

It's scheduled to be legitimate, replacing fossils.RespectTheBlade wrote:Does anyone know if Rocks and Minerals is going to be a legitimate or trial event next year? If it is, I found a very nice pocket field guide that I'm currently studying from.
