Re: Japan Joining Science Olympiad?
So it's 100% confirmed that Japan will be sending a team next year? I looked online and couldn't find anything related.

No, but Japan is taking a big interest in the organization.

Re: Japan Joining Science Olympiad?
I don't know...I fell asleep during the opening ceremony, so I probably missed that part. Someone please tell me what is going on with Japan? And International Science Olympiad isn't associated with the US Science Olympiad, so it's very unlikely that Japan would watch a US tournament to know about an international one that doesn't have anything to do with each other. If Japan sends teams next year...*STRANGLE STRANGLE*

I think Internationals would be cool. It's something that gets mentioned every now and then.
I have a friend who lives in Korea and goes to an English school and knows English better than Korean, though. Not sure if they have many schools like that in Japan.

They said, I paraphrase, "Among us will e a few ambassadors from Japan, who are interested in sending teams to our competition next year."
And that was about all, but I saw them interviewing kids and taking pictures throughout the competition.

That would be so cool if Japan joined the competition, though, wouldn't it? (If they competed at my Regionals or SoCal State or something, it'd be really cool to meet them....)

Join VA, Japan! It's a state that needs someone to join forces with Kilmer (and then win by over 200 points at nats
)!

Re: Japan Joining Science Olympiad?
I may have heard wrong, but I thought they said that Japan was considering starting a Science Olympiad program in Japan, not sending a team to the US. Or does starting a Science Olympiad program in Japan imply they'd send a team here?

Re: Japan Joining Science Olympiad?
Awww.... I think you just crushed my hopes and dreams.... (Alas, sending teams from Japan over to the US would probably be both costly and would create a bunch of conflicts, seeing as Japan might complain that they only get to send over students who are fluent in English..... unless we can translate the test, but the wording might be changed slightly in the process....)
Overall, I think that Science Olympiad starting in Japan would be pretty cool either way, though, since that means that the organization's starting to spread to different parts of the world. (Maybe it'll soon spread to the rest of Asia, and next time I go over to visit my relatives in Viet Nam, they'll know what I'm talking about when I talk about Science Olympiad!)
EDIT: No, I don't think it implies that they'll send a team over here, but I can dream, can't I?
