Wisconsin has a much better campus than UIUC IMHO. Also it has an excellent biology program, much better than Illinois, however Illinois tends to be superior in physics and engineering.
Events: Herpetology, Fossils, Entomology, Rocks & Minerals, Ornithology, Ecology
Nationals 2008: 1st in Herpetology
Nationals 2009: 1st in Herpetology, 2nd in Fossils

They want Nationals as much as you do.
...well, maybe not as much if they've already been there a few times, but they deserve it as much as you. If you make your team work the hardest they can and you're not a hypocrite, I can bet that you'll get to Nationals. :D

well not really...for F-M's A team it's nationals or die :|

But yea quizbowl that's an awful reason about not getting to go to nats. You need to raise your competition level as opposed to F-M suddenly dropping off after having survived numerous graduation classes (The did slip slightly at nats last year but I think that could be attributed to inexperience...6 sophomores).

Don't hate on sophomores.
But yeah, quizbowl, we shouldn't just drop out because you want to go to Nationals. You should either encourage everybody to work ten times harder, or move.

Hopefully this year people will trade their cheese hats, especially because its in Wisconsin so there's no excuse for not bringing enough
Does anyone remember who was giving out the gold "HOPE" pins last year?

How about you just buy one while you're there rather then trying to make the teams from Wisconsin trade their 20 dollar hats for things worse in general much less then 20 dollars?

We had Geno's Steaks shirts estimated at 26$ USD. >_>

Anyway, I found a song with lyrics that reminded me of one special annual event:

(Chorus): Memories make me want to go back there, back there
All the memories make me want to go back there, back there
All the memories, how can we make it back there, back there
I want be there again. ~Memories by Weezer

On a side note, if people haven't seen it already, the tournament location for 2013 has been decided. Congrats to Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio!

Which brings me to my point: Why cant the national tournament be held in the west? Last time it was in the west was 2001, i believe.

Well, overall, teams will have to travel less if it is towards the east. There are more teams in the east due to participation level, and some states are very small which permits lots of representatives over a small area. That being said, if a competition can be justified way off in Florida, it can probably be in the west every once in a while.
When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened.
