For me, though, the first book in the series was awesome, and the second and third just really couldn't compete. I had no idea a show for it got produced, I assume, recently; it's often really cool to see favorite book characters come to life on the screen.
The author released the 4th book in 2019

Some personal favorites of mine are The Call of Cthulhu and Pickman's Model by H.P. Lovecraft. These books give a nice overview of his style of writing and are great reads. If you enjoy historical books then All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque is a great read.

I’m wayyyy late but still, the Wings of Fire series are great books! Might be a kid’s series, but they’re still written really well. Also, the main series is 15 books long(17 if you include the two spin-offs), so it’ll probably last you a few months.

I agree: it sounds like a super generic suggestion but I actually know some people who have never read the series!

OK - here's a suggestion that's a bit less well known.

"Wars of Light and Shadow" series by Janny Wurts. It's an 11 book series, of which 10 are published, and the 11th is in preparation. Epic high fantasy, not even slightly formulaic.
