If you want smooth bg music, I have found that using sound bytes underneath the loops section seems to work best.
THen if you write
repeat forever:
play sound [] until done
it should play music smoothly
You don't need it very complicated, you just need it to score high on the rubric.
Having sounds play when your character interacts with something else would probably score higher than sounds playing for the entire game, although I'm not completely sure of this.
