I think it's supposed to be like the triathlon and the decathlon, only I have no idea why they chose five. Maybe for the five academic/physical challenge pairs? Or maybe 'cause it just sounded cool?

In 2007 and 2008, Five Star Science was a C division event. Basically, you would take a test on general science. I assume that it didn't work out well considering that it's not and event now.

That is a horrible reason to want Pentathalon to stay. Horrible. SO is not about easy events AT ALL. It's about how hard you work. How much fun you have. How much you gain both physically and mentally. An event can be hard for one person, but easy for another. If you study hard enough, a "hard" event will turn into an "easy" event. And events should not be classified as easy or hard in the first place. It all depends on the effort put in and the way its run and a million other things. That is a horrible reason for Pentathalon to stay. I would say more, but I have to go eat lunch.

I completely agree. Also, who's to say Pentathlon is an easy event? It's very unpredictable and hard to study for, so that makes it difficult to medal in. At regionals we thought we did pretty well, but we got 15th.

Although it looks like it's leaving for 2011, thank goodness.

You people think it's all about winning. Just because one event is unique(it covers a lot of topics and lots of wield stuff) doesn't mean it's bad. Has SO drained all your creativity? Comon! Once in pentathlon we had to dress up like greek gods and carry a golf ball with a spoon in your mouth while having to hop a bouncy ball between you legs. I was fun. :D

I personally don't care for the event but i don't like kids on sci oly thinking athletic activity is dumb...having a good lifestyle is important and that's hardly just about eating healthy, you guys should seriously consider joining an athletic team at your school or taking up a sport just for fun.

Now don't get me wrong, im not some jock who wears a badge of pride for sucking at math, im just nerdy and into sci oly as you guys. Its just that id like to think we as intelligent human beings are "the bigger men/woman".

I go to a really crappy school and im pretty much the only member on my team whos really competitive at state (our regionals are pathetic), but the team is getting better. But i really hate how most kids at my school and most other public schools in america think that being smart is pointless and that athletics are better. The "nerd" stereotype has gone too far. And theres only one way to get acceptance...not that we need it, but it helps. Lets no be like them...let's be well rounded human beings. Lets pave a path for perfection, so that one day, some Asian kid with a 4.0 GPA on sci oly and math team, also does varsity football.

Ya, i can see myself getting a lot of flame for this, but i don't think there's any point in P.E either...Why not just have a physical fitness test. If you pass, your golden, if you don't then you have to take P.E as punishment. Because as far as ive seen, 50 minutes of being in a P.E class 5 days a week really isn't going to help you...when u get to high school, your either active and live a healthy lifestyle, or your something else. Not to mention, P.E is especially pointless for a school athlete...my school is so stupid

No me gusta pentathalon.

Sometimes we don't like it just because it makes us look ridiculous.
