Since in years past the NYC region has gotten 8 bids, I'd guess each one will get 4 bids since it was split in half? They may actually end up getting more since Brother Nigel said they were going for 60 division C teams instead of 56 like in years past. The exact number probably depends on how many teams end up competing though.

Generally it's around 5 or 6 spots for each regional.

States is already in less than 3 months! Since we've had two instate invitationals and this thread has been kinda quiet, does anyone have any really early predictions for states?

Ooh these are some interesting predictions! What makes you think Stuyvesant will make it to nationals this year?

Nothing in particular. Just wanted to change it up.

Changing it up is always fun lol but you may be right! Stuyvesant’s LISO performance was indicative of a great season, especially with their B team coming in only a bit below Ward Melville’s. If we use LISO as a standard, these two teams are definitely comparable at this point in the season.

I will say I’m super excited for MIT, where 4 of last years NY States top 5 will be competing. That’s probably gonna be a better indicator than LISO as to the strength of Stuyvesant, and also an early look if we can expect as clean of a Columbia win as last year.

One other thing worth noting is Staten Island Tech and Brooklyn Tech both had some solid superscores at LISO, and I’d bet we can expect some good results out of them!

As for The Mount Academy, they will be competing with us at the Columbia invitational on 1/4, so that should serve to give us a preliminary indicator of their strength for this year. I’m kinda expecting them to be a powerhouse this year, maybe even akin to their 4th in 2018? It’s hard to say now, but I’m definitely excited to see how we fare against them.

Syosset and Great Neck South look very strong as they always do based on Cornell and LISO. Pittsford Sutherland surprised me at states last year, so I imagine this year they’ll be looking to keep that going. Hard to say though, as I don’t think last year they went to any invitationals...? So idk if they will be this year.

I said the word expect a lot but yeah. Looks like an exciting year for the state!
