Well, I certainly find the first of November to be pretty significant: most early decision schools require your application by then. Maybe that's an allusion to a senior: after all, college essays kill.

I remember in Your Daily Random Comment someone talked about college.

Mulling over the "64not81" part of the message, I think we all agree that these are consecutive squares? Can anybody think of anything that usually involves something with nine, but now has eight? Something that pops up when I think about it is a magic square: the classic one is composed of nine squares making a larger one. Although, I have no clue how eight would work here instead.

In the book, the murders follow a poem:

Ten little Soldier boys went out to dine; One choked his little self and then there were nine.

Could the 64not81 part have something to do with the line about 8 soldiers? Rather than describing the 9th soldier boy, sassy's describing the 8th?
