The time is from the moment you push the button to when the vehicle comes to a complete stop from what I have read of the rules. There are no timing lines, so there is no way to use photo gates or even lasers to assist manual timers. Or you can just use a regular balsa rod right? I’ve been using that for most mousetrap competitions when O was in Div B. They are really good but I changed them out every competition just for safety. Opinions?

I didn't know they made threaded balsa rods. I think that would be an interesting option, but I'd be worried about wear from the wingnut and potential breaking. How about nylon threaded rod? Idk how much it bends but at 1/4 in thick it might be more stable. you could use a 1/4 carbon rod for the back axle.
coupled with banebot's wheels, a square carbon tube/3d printed joints frame, and maybe some r188 ceramic bearings on the axles, and you might get a ridiculously light, high traction and very minimal friction setup.
