forget eta carinae, what about betelgeuse? we could see that plus ,it wont do us any damage, since it's rotational axis is not toward the Earth, its supernova would not cause a gamma ray burst in the direction of Earth large enough to damage its ecosystem. it would take 7,500 to 8,000 years after the explosion time before we could see eta carinae, but betelguese would only take 640 years

But, dude, Eta Carinae is like more super massive than Betelgeuse. And plus it would be cool to see a hypergiant explode. Dude.
