It can also make building the LSS significantly more difficult, if not impossible for some hosts, especially if they already have one from last year. Getting funding in college and other orgs can be fairly difficult.

Optics rule 3.c. states that "directions and resources on how to retrofit an existing LSS can be found at www.soinc.org. Hopefully it'll be something that's doable for a lot of people

Yeah, I still need to create those and get them posted. FYI, I pushed very hard to make the magnetic base REQUIRED, not recommended. But there were a few people with strong opinions otherwise, so we compromised and made it recommended.

Re: that recommendation, concerned teams can always offer to supply their state of the art LSS to tournaments they're attending. It'd be no different than supplying a testing apparatus or whatever for a balsa event.

Ya I will probably be pushing my coach to do this.

Is Snell's Law officially included in division b this year. They do not outright say it but do mention refraction.

I believe there is no difference between B and C topics this year.

rules xi-xiii which are about more complex ray tracing and lasers are only for div C

Looking at the tentative div b schedule for nats this year, it seems like optics is not self-scheduled, even though last year it was.
I know this is tentative but I was just wondering if there was a reason for this?

It wasn't self-scheduled last year either (at least, not in Div C).
