The interaction between the esc and arduino was very sketch, with sometimes the pwm pulses getting out of phase and the esc misinterpreting the signals. If found that more gradually changing the speed helped with this issue, but I still had a problem with inconsistent braking since the brushless motor could not travel at low speeds(lowest would already give like a 2.8 sec time). For this I was not able to find a good solution last year so I switched to DC instead of figuring it out, since the .3 second of time I may lose are probably not worth the effort this year considering the scoring change.GoldDigger wrote:And Bazinga, what happened to be the 'brushless+esc+arduino problem' from last year? What had caused all those problems and what fixed them?

Re: Pictures, Videos, and Scores
I am considering changing to a different board. I just happened to have a lot of experience with Arduino from the previous year and figured sticking with it would be easier. Delay is very small and I used external interruptsGoldDigger wrote:Sweet! One more thing.. I am slightly confused on why you had decided to use 5 nanos b/c of the delay causes from communicating between multiple processors and overall complexity. Why didn't you choose to buy a more powerful board (i.e greater SRAM and flash memory) with enough pins for all the peripherals?
And lol another thing... are you using some sort of inertial measurement unit (IMU) (i.e. accelerometer) to determine the position of your vehicle? I can't imagine how one accounts for the error from the skid and different frictions of floors without moving backwards. Since we can't back track this year, what else can one do other then maybe... continuously keeping track of his/her vehicle through an IMU and creating some sort of feedback loop from that data.

Here is my first official run for this season from Islip Invitationals: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B1aWKu ... FoZlE/view

Shoot. Did you decide to use the brushless motor for your vehicle this year?

It was -7. They recorded your can distance as 46. Bayard Rustin got the bonus too, but a smaller one and they had a competition violation.Bazinga+ wrote:I had my first competition today (Islip Invites) and placed 1st in EV with a time of 2.9 seconds and was off by 2.1 cm. I also did the bonus with the cans being about 23 cm apart (I don't think anyone else at the competition attempted the bonus). I think the final score was around -12.

Do you know how close Rustin got to the target? Thanks.Flavorflav wrote:It was -7. They recorded your can distance as 46. Not close - 260ish. Next closest after you was GNS at 3.5, but they didn't do the bonus.

I only have one rotary encoder which is on my back axle.GoldDigger wrote:Do you have another rotary encoder on your front axle?
