This was STATES, in New York, which is a pretty competitive state... We talked a little, and she clearly had been trained as a Writer, not just thrown onto the event- so it was utterly bizarre to me that she could have never used Legos in practice.
Yeah We practice with K'nex, food, legos, all kinds of stuff like that...

oh right, proctor failure at states, every board was supposed to have a 4 leaf clover key chain attached in a hole and when we finished writing the girl next to me said "i didnt get a key chain like everyone else..." they just gave her the points for it because they failed which made me mad. but she didnt do well in the end anyways.

We got 2nd today and my partners do it part looked only SOMEWHAT like the real model. We cracked up.

yea that makes a lot of sense but wouldn't it be hard to practice because friends would probably play around instead?

It depends- in 7th grade, I did this event with my best friend (I was the writer), and we did pretty well. Last year, I did this event with someone I'm friends with, but nowhere near as close- I didn't know her very well at all- and we did REALLY well (3rd at Nationals). She was just really good at following directions

yea time limits suck they put the pressure on the most in competition
