We both tried to hard to kill kate!, but at the last minute an officer protected her (not for the right reasons, but still). Alex was close, but not in the way he thinks.

We’re now here at the cross country skiing event. There’s the Chinese best skier with the unpronounceable name in 1st currently! He is a really vital teammate in the Chinese olympic team.
(sorry it's a really short clue)

skskskfjjdjd phew...
So the Alex thing might have to do with AlexRCHS and the Chinese thing may be partially an ID clue... the unpronounceable name may mean rocks and minerals, fossils, microbe...
Oh! I protect UTF because he did Fossils and his username translated to Unicode is some Chinese characters.

So... WIDI maybe?
As for this clue... based on this list of Chinese Olympic cross country skiers there are several that have names that could appear "unpronounceable" to those unfamiliar with Chinese names. However, there are two that stand out to me: Ren Long and Xu Wenlong, because both have "Long" in them (whythelongface). And "Ren" reminds me of Remote again, one of whythelongface's events. But I felt a similar way last time and I was wrong... :(

But whythelongface is already dead? Same as they were last time you thought it was a RemSen clue?

Just to clarify our typos again, the first line should say "We both tried so hard to kill kate!" not "We both tried to hard to kill kate!".

Um....
I protect myself because I'm an officer and I haven't been targeted yet.

EDIT: I accuse Person because of a set of convoluted reasons I won't explain here.
