It would probably be good to know about them, as well as redshift and blueshift.

Do we have to know about quasars, Cepheid variables, and pulsars for states?

Re: Reach For The Stars

hey, guys! I competed in State's just yesterday. I was way too tired to post (It was Pat's fault! he made me run all around campus to impound a windmill thing!!)

I got Bronze by making up the entire identifying constellations page (sans Orion) because the person controlling our planetarium was going way too fast... also, my partner and I guessed on the written part.

We had to know how to label the layers of the sun, order star evolution according to pictures, label where stars fall on H-R diagrams, and fill in the blanks of this paragraph that was about globular/open clusters... oh, and identify deep sky objects and label if they were certain types of galaxies (spiral, etc.)

Well, that tells you so much about Connecticut's RFS representative (I am not sure if they placed in RFS, but they got 1st and my school got 2nd)...

Thanks a bunch to those that helped me here!

For Example Spica. Spica is a B1III-IV type star. The III-IV is the Yereks part. That means it is in between a sub giant and a giant. The B1 means that it is a very hot B star around 22000K.

Yeah but do we really have to know it? My partner did the event for two years (he made nationals in both) and never mentioned it
