Edit 2: I'm going to protect myself, because we've solved the clue already (confirmed courtesy of Z), and um...the decoded message can be shuffled around to spell out 'stars' and 'darkness', which point to astronomy.

Also: If you take the de-Morsecoded thing, and rotate it with width 5, you get WELLSDIRKSWORTHAVILAPENNY -> WELLS DIRKS WORTH AVILA PENNY. All are players for the Detroit Tigers.

That was posted at 9:11 this morning (the Assassinator posted at this exact time earlier in the thread) in the "What is the Nerdiest Thing You Have Ever Done" thread. I have a screencap if anyone needs to see it, since the post was deleted.

Genius' reasoning is similar to what I thought when I saw that post.

I'm going to suggest the officers take the hints to the earlier two, because:
a) We have already made headway on the 2nd, and so a hint will push us even farther, bringing us closer to the solution.
b) Since we don't know what the final clue is, it could be impossibly vague, and the hint could be the only way to make it solvable, giving us, basically, just 3 clues (as the hint will have taken the final clue from impossible to normal range, if that makes sense)

The only flaw with the way that this game is being ended is that it becomes impossible for the assassin to win since 6 accusations are needed to win while the officers have a total of 4 accusations while there is no mention of what happens if the officers incorrectly guess the identity of the assassin while 2 accusations are needed to win with officers having 0 accusations left. I would assume that the game would be considered a draw, and the officers and assassin would decide who the next assassin would be.
