Were they good?
BTW, anyone know where to download bird calls? I need them for my movie in video class.

the pictures were AMAZING!
and here is another link that may work for sounds ... http://www.azfo.org/soundlibrary/sounds_intro.html
as for DOWNLOADING... i have CD's but no sites to actually download from. you could record them from your computer (web sites) and have them on a disk that you upload to your computer or play for your video...

Junglewalk.com usually has downloadable songs from other websites indexed, and I found it to work really well. The only issue is, to search for a bird, put in the general term, like "owl" instead of "barn owl", because that's the only way results will come up.

I have most of my songs on Ipod, and listen to them often, to get the hang of them. Also, I have seen tests give a mating call and ask the bird, so if there are any unusual calls, those would be good to know.

I have not found a website that has all of the calls available for download in a single location. Last year when I was finding them all, I had to do lots of google searches, but I found all of them. I probably ended up dowloading from 7 or more websites. ...make sure your internet security is good and you know what you are doing.

I much prefer the Sibley, but that's probably just because I'm used to the layout. I think it's better for identification that the Audubon.

I love the Peterson, but that's just me.

How often do you think female birds will show up for identification?
I'm really scared that they'll throw out some female songbird, and they're all brown :(

If that ever becomes an issue during competition, write down its field marks on your cheat sheet and ID it later. You have more than enough time to figure out what specimens are by the end of the 50min. And, of course, answer the other questions if you can.

I tried to do this last year, but I wasn't too great at it - I think I'm a bit better than I was last year though, so I'll be able to pick up on some better clues. What marks, for the female birds, should I focus on?

I had a brilliant idea for studying this year. I'm not sure why I didn't think of it last year. I'm making flashcards to practice bird identification, but the color printing costs are expensive. Instead, I went to Borders, and in their bargain book section, they have some pretty cheap field guides. I think mine was 4 dollars. They don't have every bird on the list, but for those they do have, you can cut out the picture for a flashcard instead of printing one.
