I've built 8 or 9 of these over the years and would be glad to assist. My design is not nearly a pretty as some, but is very functional and very portable. I've used the same unit now for 20 years, so I'd say it is also fairly resilient. Last year me and my partner just cut angles on the ends of the wood we were gluing instead of notches so we achieved basically the same effect as a notch and it worked fine and weighed lesssciolyperson1 wrote: ↑September 24th, 2019, 9:50 pmI don't believe that is a common practice when building boomis, it damages the wood structure and gives no significant, if any gains as opposed to gluing a piece of wood right on the other.

How are scores looking so far? I'm kinda stuck at 1000 but I'm trimming the mass down.

With the bonus this year, that sounds entirely possible - it would take a boomilever at around 7.4 g to hold all 15 kg. My first booms were around 1.4k with bonus, and expecting around 2 k by the time regionals rolls around. (hopefully)

Hi, I have a question about the main compression members. I am going for a double beam compression design this year and was wondering what kind of orientation I should use. I am planning on using 1/8x3/8 balsa for the compression members. My question is should the 3/8 part be facing up to allow for more surface area to glue on horizontal bracing or should the 1/8 part be facing up to allow for more surface area to connect the compression and the tension members together?
