No, I don't think so, because this is solar system, and most other things are having to do with this solar system specificly, not other solar systems. It might be wise to know a little of it, but you probably don't want to spend too much time on it...

Apparently, you need to know theories about how our Solar System was formed, but not the Universe as whole. Of coarse, it wouldn't hurt, but I wouldn't focus on it...

so you don't need to know the big bang theory...I thought it said that in the rules... :o

Did it? You could be right...

I haven't been asked about the origin of the Universe yet, just our Solar System, but there's no telling what States and Nationals might bring...

Theories such as the nebular theory and planetesimal theory are also required on the rules sheet...I think. We only need to know a couple of theories of how the Universe and Solar System formed, but it is mostly focused on the solar system.

This is a great practice test for solar system for the state. It consists of 55 questions. http://www.tufts.edu/as/wright_center/p ... s_quiz.pdf

I just checkd the rules...

It said history and therioes of the formation of The Solar System. It doesn't say anything about theories on the formation of the Universe, but, again, there's no asking what they'll ask at States, even if they're not supposed to...

I think the only theory we have to know relating to the universe is the big bang theory

So we all agree that you don't NEED to know any formation theories of the universe, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to have some general knowledge of the Big Bang theory, just in case someone decides to quiz us on something not mentioned in the rules.

here are some good websites to help with theories of the origination of the solar system:
