Though they both are similar in how they do not kill all of the microbes, sanitization is still different, as it's main goal is to lower the amount of harmful microbes to match with public safety standards. In general, disinfectants tend to kill more microbes that could be considered harmful. They are very close in definition, but still not the same[spoiler]Disinfection does not always get rid of microbes that cause disease. Like sanitization, disinfection also serves primarily to reduce, not completely eliminate, pathogens.[/spoiler]
