A jig is what you use to put your bridge together. I can't really explain much, I don't use one.

A jig is basically a 3D 'template' for building your bridges (or any other balsa structure for that matter) out of. For some designs it can be more helpful than others, depends on opinion.

is it possible for them to change the rules next year and make it "un-elevated bridge"?

Any thing is possible, but highly unlikely.

I haven''t heard of any major problems with Elevated Bridge so I wouldn't expect any major changes. Past practice has been to change the dimensions so the same structures can't be used over again and to fix problems in the language of the rules.

If you want to practice over the summer, my best guess would be to continue using this year's rules until something better comes along. Anything you learn should be almost 100% transferable.

oh no! this is bad, for our team next year we have to work on the old bridge rules, over the summer! I can't disobey the coaches and build a non-elevated bridge, but that means i'll submerge myself into bridge rules from two years ago (or three, not sure).

that makes no sense. If you had to work on the old bridge rules, you would be working on Non-elevated bridge, and disobeying the coaches would be making an elevated bridge.

No, I do, but the coaches think that next year they might revert back to the old bridge rules

no i meant that I will make a "non-elevated" bridge, but i think that elevated bridge would still be an event next year. this is bad.

Elevated Bridge will be back next year, with some revisions. Tell your coaches.

Elevated Bridge is a variation on the old bridge rules. Some very good bridges were built this year which were simple bridges on legs. Some very good bridges were built which integrated the leg structure completely into the truss design. Plenty of bridges were built which could use some improvement, so I think the event should still be interesting and challenging for another year.
