Umm...I got a whole bunch of field guides from the library, and it seemed to me as if the National Wildlife Federation Field Guide to Trees was the best...it had a lot of great info, and really nice pictures. Downside: not a lot of writing space, but you could just cover the other trees on the two pages with a blank sheet of lined paper and write on that...

No, what I think TheBookworm meant was to use the note sheet we are allowed to bring to the competition. And about pines, uhhhh... just practice and read descriptions carefully. I suggest checking out the Forestry ID section or whatever and see if anyone did anything on pines, though I have never gone through that topic so...

Isn't it a bit unfair to have so many pines on the list?? I mean, those who live in a region covered with pine trees like Colorado would have an unfair advantage over those living in the tropical regions, like me, in Miami, Florida or people in Hawaii. Or do you think the people who made the list were thinking that there are pines pretty much everywhere in the states except for a few places? If that even made any sense...
