how would you run out of winds before the helicopter falling? Usually when a helicopter comes down it doesn't have enough torque to sustain itself, how'd you do it so that you'd have very little rubber torque and the helicopter would still sustain itself?

How high was the ceiling and how long did the heli descend for?
I timed the overall flight, not just the decent, but I'd guess that it was full 45 seconds coming off of a 45' - 50' roof deck

That's very good. Apparently the rotors are customized very well to 1/8 (or whatever size they are using) rubber.

One question, though: Was it just a ridiculously good, but standard design helicopter? Or was it a gimmick that actually worked?
A combination of the perfect flight, a very well run event that really minimized air currents by controlling both kinds of fans, a nice, high ceiling with a generous space between girders, and a very well built helo.
How many rotors did this beast have? Are they full size? All balsa?

Balsa is basically a given. You aren't going to use oak. And I don't think they used more than the standard 2 rotors, either, or else someone would have probably posted about it on scioly.

You got me. I know that, but obviously any additional info on a five minute copter given by answering such questions would be beneficial for everyone on here, myself included

hey guys (and gals), I was looking at avogadro.ws and some of the stuff from wiconsin is still up to view. But alot of the helicopter stuff has scores like 1.584 and 1.263 so I was wondering if you could explain how that scoring works?
obviously they done A have timers that accurite and B 1st place being 1.584 seconds. So how is that score tabulated?
thanks

My guess is 1.584 = 1 minute, 58.4 seconds
I have seen this a few times at competitions this year. It makes it easier for the timekeepers since no stopwatch (that I know of) times everything in seconds.
Sounds like they have at least a few good helicopters in Wisconson.

How can you open avogadro? it doesn't work for me, or others from my state

It doesn't work fOr most of the regionals/invites just a few of the WI ones. U go to the hosted competitions and click on the one u want. Then on the left is a set of tabs one says something like 'competition results' and if they're up they'll be there.
I think only 4 work.
I know WI state Compeitition works
