The Green Heron is one of the few tool-using birds. It commonly drops bait onto the surface of the water and grabs the small fish that are attracted. It uses a variety of baits and lures, including crusts of bread, insects, earthworms, twigs, or feathers
Breeds in swampy thickets. Forages in swamps, along creeks and streams, in marshes, ponds, lake edges, and pastures
Winters mostly in coastal areas, especially mangrove swamps and in general the habitat is the marsh.
I see these alot down at our pond

Yes I always thought that was pretty awesome. Smart little bird.
Comment on its distribution compared with others in the family. Feeding Behavior?

Great Blue Heron white morph
Its distribution is pretty much throughout the entire country. Also, there are colonies of breeding herons that may be found in trees not near water.
The feeding behavior is to wade and stand still until it spots a fish. Then, it creeps up to the fish and catches it by stabbing its prey with the spear-like bill.

Correct, I would just add that it has the largest distribution of any heron

Brown Creeper.
It spirals up around a tree trunk as it feeds.
