I don't think they would give you two pens. I sent a FAQ a few days ago asking if that's possible and I haven't heard back from the National organizers yet. poparteeb2, can you provide a link as to where you saw that an inference is necessary for the observation to be scored 5 pts? Also, what numeral level of resistance is equivalent to high, low, and medium conductivity?

For a question like "what is the appearance of this sample?", what's the best observation for it?

I'm not sure, but I thought I saw it (as in the putting inference in observation) on an event somewhere, where the event scoring guide had that listed as 5 points...O.O I really hope not, that seems awfully unfair.
I hope we can ask for two pens, because we don't have enough time to record all our observations in....

If it was white, say "substance white." If you looked at its crystal structure and it was visible, say "crystal structure ______." If you can't see the crystals, say "too small to be seen." Whatever you do, don't say "amorphous"

Thanks! Would we get points off for combining observations? Like saying the powder is bright white and crystalline in the same observation?

Hey, you guys ever see that test where it says "put down your best observation?" would they do that at nats, because then shouldn't we just combine observations then? Right now we have "crystal shape" as one observation and "crystal size" as another. Should we combine those two?
