At states, our judges didn't have any questions either - they just told us to make sure we covered everything, so we went over the concepts we already demonstrated.

our model was a failure, but we did okay on the test and were able to identify all terms. Next time, insert section dividers ahead of time instead of during the 10 minute build.

What do you mean by section dividers?

I divided my container into sections using pieces of taped-togethered plastic. That way I could show porosity and a confining unit easier.

Yeah, dividing the container makes it much easier, although at our state tournament, the concepts didn't include porosity and permeability. It was a bit ironic, as the concepts were pretty easy (recharge from precipitation, etc.) Regardless, my partner and I did not do that well in aquifers

Oh, I see. Our judges at state allowed us to do demonstrations in outside containers, so we didn't need to do that. For the confining unit, the clay doesn't need to go all the way across the aquifer, it just needs to confine one section.

The written tests for state was ridiculous. The first one was a simple multiple-choice test, but the diagram one was extreemely hard. We had to calculate flow rate in a confined aquifer, and pressure in wells.

Our state tournament consisted of station 1 and 2 blended together. It was pretty easy, consisting of questions like, "As the size of well sorted sediment decreases, this property increases." It was also multiple choice.

Our state likes to use questions from the earth science regents exam on both the aquifers and Dynamic Planet tests. Having done ES last year, I recognized around 15/20 of the questions at stations 1/2.
