Backed by some support in the chat room, I propose that we eliminate the Posting Games forum. It is annoying.
When it comes to the future, there are three kinds of people: those who let it happen, those who make it happen, and those who wonder what happened.

Agreed. Seven pages of threads that have no relative meaning. From games as stimulating as "slap the keyboard" to "if you were a candy bar, what would you be?"Paradox21 wrote:Backed by some support in the chat room, I propose that we eliminate the Posting Games forum. It is annoying.
They will not be missed. Assassination might be okay, but I'm not partial.

I say we delete everything in posting games except for the assassinations, which get their own subforum. Because the assassinations can occasionally be interesting.Paradox21 wrote:Backed by some support in the chat room, I propose that we eliminate the Posting Games forum. It is annoying.

Re: Season 2011 - Site suggestions
Yeah, most of those games just ruin my index page (I try to keep everything read so I know which forums I haven't read)... I think the Daily Random Comment is somewhat useful for saying things that don't go anywhere else (such as "I'm first chair in band!" or something...
)(It isn't even really a posting game)... and the assassinator games are fairly entertaining, but after that there's nothing really worth keeping, in my mind.

Yes, the posting games can be... well... its like picking through a junkyard. Every now and then, you will find something of great value, but for the most part it is junk. The YDRC (Your Daily Random Comment) I think can be moved to General Chat... its more of just chatting and hanging around then a "game". The name doesn't fit the topic any more. The Assassination Games, while some people may disspute it, do have some value to it. Its a Scioly.org tradition now (while on that note, I think several people would like it if someone would lock the old games as to not screw with the order).
So, in summary:
YDRC could be moved to General Chat, if deleted, and the only thing we ask of the mods, if they decide to delete the Posting Games, is to save the Assassination games.
The only other thing I would miss would be the Pie Race, but truth be told, it too is worthless.

Re: Season 2011 - Site suggestions
Deleting the posting games has been discussed many times in the past. The consensus was that if they were deleted, people would just create the threads under general chat, or even worse under the event forums. The way it is now, it gives an opportunity for people to channel their want of posting games without majorly disrupting the other forums.

Re: Season 2011 - Site suggestions
If you look at the OBB Archive, you can kinda get a snapshot of what General Chat was like prior to the creation of Posting Games:
http://scioly.org/obbarchive/board.php?FID=6
There are about 14 posting games on the first 2 pages, 1 or so per page for a few pages after that, and then almost none. Posting games get posted in almost every day, while discussion threads do not. Combining the two forums effectively limits the number of active discussion threads.
I think Posting Games is a necessary evil. We can't combine the two forums and simply arbitrarily choose a few threads to allow.

Re: Season 2011 - Site suggestions
I think posting games should be it's own forum oppose to a subforum, so people avoiding the games can avoid them. On another forum I am a part of we have Spamming Spammerton's Big Ball of Spam and a general chat.

It's fairly easy to avoid them as a subforum; just don't click on "Posting Games"
