First of all, red cabbage juice really is just that... it's not a trade name for any commercially produced indicator... Accompany Mom to the grocery next time she goes and ask her to buy a head of red (purple actually) cabbage... when you get home, cut it up, turn on the hood over the stove, and boil the heck out of it. Now fry up some ground beef and serve the cabbage with it...

Take the remaining purple juice and refrigerate (yes, it will spoil if left out). Take some baking soda and disolve in water, then add a couple of ml to 20 ml of the juice... now take some vitamin C tabs, crush, and disolve in water. Repeat the same process with that liquid and compare the resultant solutions.

NaOH has always been a rather mysterious reagent to test with, ofter providing much less dramatic reactions than those of HCl... Here's a really great site to view short clips of various NaOH reactions that may help you identify what you are looking for:

What's the best way to tackle the
"Give the best observation you've made you have not already marked"
question? What's a good thing to include?

I got 8th in this event, and medals only went up to 7th place! :(
For this event, know everything and anything there is to know about how to use lab equipment and making observations.
