I have a question. When the rule book comes out, where can you buy it? I want to get one so I can see how each event is like, and I don't have to worry about getting one from my SO teacher/coach.

You can buy the rule books at the SO store http://store.soinc.org/ Rules are available in early September.

Just wondering, why is Hydrogeology in the Inquiry and Nature of Science Committee (https://www.soinc.org/2016_event_table), not the Earth and Space Science one? It just seems kinda odd since Hydrogeology is a branch of geology..

My best guess is its use of computer modeling. Kind of goes along with a lot of other odd inquiry events, like Bottle Rocket, Bungee Drop (bungee was an inquiry, right?)

I think Bungee was mostly about creating models to predict what to set the cord to to get the best drop once you know the height and weight of the drop; the model making is why it's inquiry.

However, while I never competed in it, Hydrogeo doesn't really seem to have the inquiry part.

There aren't any hard and fast rules as to which event goes in which committee. The chairs sometimes 'horse trade' a bit or help bring in events they have some sort of particular tie to. Hydrogeology is one such event, where there is a tie between the chair and the Groundwater Foundation that helped develop it.

Is ecology most likely going to be an official event next year?
