exactly, this would only be an advantage if only some of the teams knew about what pieces were being used. it doesnt help anyone get to nationals because they all know about it, its an advantage thats canceled out. and now that i think about it, it may even be a disadvantage to the winning team, because for nats they wouldnt have practiced with as many odd objects as all the other teams.

I love WIDI (I'm a writer) but sometimes the pieces they use just make you cringe. For example, at the C Div Regionals in our region, the WIDI included a balloon that the doer had to stamp (like an ink stamp) and then blow up and stick on a cone type thing (I heard this secondhand from my last-year's doer who is now in C Division). At our (B Div) Regionals, my school had 5 teams; the A team didn't do WIDI (I had a conflict- unfortunately I also have a conflict at States) but all the others did, and they did really badly (none of the teams were higher than like 15th, I think). It was the only event that none of our teams medaled in (last year I got 3rd in WIDI at Regionals. Weirdly enough, I also got 3rd in WIDI at States, AND 3rd in WIDI at Nationals...).

I'm new at this. It's my school's first competition so I have no idea what to do. Any help would be gratified. :?

Our Regionals always has weird materials, actually (and we're in NY)... we had caramel candy and foam packing peanuts one year, and this year it was popsicle sticks with notches in them... Just to clarify how terribly it's run, they had to glue together the models to get them to stay- and didn't realize that this meant that when the doers built them, they also wouldn't be able to get them to stay together...

*raises eyebrows* Writing easier than building? I've always found that building doesn't require anything more in depth than knowing how to follow directions, while writing actually requires skill and practice (I mean, not that building accurately doesn't require practice, but personally I think it's much easier than writing).
