I'm still firm on the idea that Shady Side as a team is getting eighth overall. I think that Paul J. Gelinas should be raised. As a first time nationals team, I don't think that Memorial should be lower than tenth (not to be critical, but look at the difference in points at the Ohio State tournament). I know that as a team from Ohio, there is some skill that follows with it to getting second against ALL the amazing teams like Chardon and Magsig, but I haven't seen enough out of them from the past to really know how this is going to turn out.

Gelinas should be higher (generally)
Shadyside raised by two
Memorial lowered by two

I think that P.J. Gelinas shouldn't get any higher than eighth. .-. Mentor should be below 10th, in my opinion. But Shady Side should be switched with it; then, Mentor should be replaced with Muscatel. That would look like this:

1. Solon
2. Daniel Wright
3. Booth
4. Winston Churchill
5. Mary Murphie
6. Meads Mill
7. Beckondorff
8. Shady Side
9. Paul J. Gelinas
10. Muscatel

Last 3 yrs (prior to this year) Mentor Memorial has been 3rd, 4th, 3rd in Ohio. Didn't just come out of the wood-work. Note that even Mentor Shore (another middle school) was 6th in the power-house state of Ohio and HS has been a perenial top 3 next to Solon and Centerville. I've been sitting back as everyone has taughted Magsig and Chardon all yr. Check the results of the Solon invite to see how Memorial stacked up against national competition. I'm not big on lineage. What a team did 2-3 yrs ago has no bearing on the present. Best to all. No more comments until after nationals.

Um... so what's your point, exactly?

Mentor is a quality team to come out of OH. I see them coming in the 7th-11th range.

I just have a question in general...are we considering the rankings by the places the teams got last year? Because sometimes a lot of the team members are new...it is based on just this year, right?

I agree with MMeteorite1 to a degree. Lineage doesn't always matter (for instance, my team,ExCEL, would've never been picked to get 2nd at nationals ever), but then again strong past lineage is what makes up good current teams such as Solon, JC booth, Churchill etc... So if I were to make my top ten for B division I would look up how this team did at the national competition in the past 1-3 years and if they hadn't been to Nats I would check their point total at their state competition that just happened. Obviously I am more inclined to pick a team to do well at Nats who got 50 points at the OH states then the SD because of difference of competition in the two states.

1st, I meant no disrespect to my fellow contestants at the Ohio State competition. Coming off a big high as you might imagine. My points are 1. Lineage only goes so far. My friends from Shadyside commented about why their performance varied so much between Wright State invite (1st) and Solon invite (I think 8th or so) because a few team members were off at other commitments. Similarly, every year, brings a new team as 9th graders move on. In the context of this mythical pole, we have been discussing projecting 2013 (the here and now), not the best teams of the 21st century. 2nd, coming from aurguably, the strongest state in the country, where being 3rd or 4th in your state often means you're a national top 10 but staying home. Kind of like being that back up to LeBron James, where you would be a starter on 30 other teams. Understandably, they are many teams in other states like California, Michigan and Illinios that are staying home that are top 15 team, assuming Nationals were an open competition. Very excite. Best of luck to all.
