Serious biz guys... At Regionals he was close to 5:04... I was in the gym at the time!Unfortunately, I don't think they made it to State as a team... So the secret stays hidden for another year.

That's amazing.
One question, though: Was it just a ridiculously good, but standard design helicopter? Or was it a gimmick that actually worked?

If you are at liberty to answer, I mean. I know a lot of teams that are paranoid about this kind of stuff.
I win.

Sigh. The one fatal flaw of scioly that keeps so many talented and hard working kids (and 5 minutes on helicopter is, in 1337 speak, beyond godly...). Can't really do much to abate the problem, especially since teamwork is a huge part of scioly.

A combination of the perfect flight, a very well run event that really minimized air currents by controlling both kinds of fans, a nice, high ceiling with a generous space between girders, and a very well built helo.

30 or 40 feet
and mine fell off the ceiling cause it had no winds left in the rubber
my heli would come down quicker than most in an 8ft ceiling it would probably take 10 seconds or so
