By the way, the Comet Invite was today. Four teams, JTL, Wyoming Area, Dallas, and Abington Heights competed. It was pretty nice, much more laid-back than most competitions. Wyoming Area got first with 41 points and JTL got second with 43 points.

For a second, I flipped out. I was all like "41 points?!?!? There's like 23 events!"

Then I reread and noticed that there were only 4 teams :? That doesn't sound that exciting.

It was a nice little invitational. Not huge, but well-run nonetheless.

Now that all of the invitationals are over, looks like it's time for regional predictions! :D

I know nobody cares about NW region, but I can say that Mount Nittany (us) has a good chance of beating/coming close to Park Forest, and State College is almost guaranteed first in C division. I don't know anything about the other regions.

Based on last year's results at states:
Division C
SE-1. Harriton, 2. Penncrest, 3. Bayard Rustin
CE-1. Emmaus, 2. Exeter, 3. Fleetwood
NE-1. Athens, 2. Wyoming Area, 3. Lehighton
C-1. Hershey, 2. Spring Grove, 3. Bishop McDevitt
SW-1. Shady Side, 2. Alderdice, 3. Plum
NW-1. State College, 2. Laurel, 3. Northeast

Those in bold were in the top ten at states last year so its hard to imagine that they would not do well in their region.

The NW region is IMO the weakest region in PA by far...which is why no one cares about it

Definitely not true; State College consistently places in the top 10 at states in C division, which is not true of several other regions.

Central's worse...who can recall the last time a Central Team went to Nationals (either Division)?
Hershey High School, 1988
We also had a state slot taken away from us for Div B because we had so few teams that signed up, and we have NO teams that consistently place in the Top 10 at States (Hershey Middle School is in and out of the Top 10, but their placing varies wildly from year to year).

I used to compete way back in the day. In the NW region, there is a huge drop-off between SC and Laurel (I remember Laurel finishing in the 20s at states), whereas when SC used to compete in central, McDevitt and Hershey posed a somewhat greater challenge (and I use that term loosely) for SC. While SC is the best team between the two regions hands-down, you also have to consider the other teams in the region. Strength of region is all the teams in the region, not just one team.

Also, the last time a team from central went to Nats was State College when they used to compete there (or at least I think so...)

Wait, so is that why SC is in NW division? To even out the competition? I've always confused by that, since we're pretty much in the exact center of PA.

Also, were you at State High? If so, when? I'm an 8th grader at Mount Nittany, but I'm going to try to get on the C team next year.
