"ISO Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update (6/16/20)
STAY TUNED FOR NEW INFORMATION! CHECK BACK JULY 1!"

ISO just posted this today on their homepage. What do you think the big announcement on July 1st will be? I'm assuming it has to do with next year's season.

It will definitely be addressing next season for sure. It will also probably be addressing the invites early on in the season (Palatine, Conant, Harlem, and even UChi) and if they will be run. They will also probably update us on info for next year's regionals and possibly state.

Also, paralleling to this, UIUC released a statement a while back saying that they plan on giving face-to-face instruction for the fall semester if IL moves to Phase 4 (it seems promising this is the case). However, regardless if we do end up going back or not, after Thanksgiving break, we are moving online til early-mid February. It will be interesting to hear from ISO and what their plans are given the current circumstances.

Seeing how things are going with COVID-19 in Illinois, I think that it's pretty likely that they'll move into Phase 4. Like Nydauron said, the statement will most likely address the invites early on in the season. I'm just hoping that the regional competitions aren't going to be cancelled especially since this year's my last chance to compete in Science Olympiad, but we'll just have to wait and see. Most likely won't be the case though.

From what I've understood plans are currently in place to ensure safety of all those involved in upcoming competitions but it will be at the discretion of the tournament directors weather to move forward or not. I have a feeling that many invitationals will operate at a much more limited capacity and social distancing being recommended. July 1st will probably shed some official light on the plans for the ongoing season and how to deal with the crisis at hand.
