Re: Egg-O-Naut
i go with whats cheapest, which are usually tonic water, and generic sodas, which i prefer for pressure chambers because they are easier to put fins on
i don't know if the shape affects anything, the nosecone usually helps aerodynamics, and without a nosecone the shape of the bottle might affect something, but with a nosecone it shouldn't do much

Re: Egg-O-Naut
The bottles that are straight on the sides are much easier to put fins and attachments on than the ones with fancy shapes.

Re: Egg-O-Naut
Those results are based on rules similar to this year's.freeman wrote:So wait rocketman your saying that those times are without the bonuses of a safe landing or a detachment from rocket? Only like four people on those results had more than 15 seconds which would mean that either the egg broke in many ways or the rocket went up for two seconds and then landed safely. I am thankful for the results but the rules aren't matching everything.

Re: Egg-O-Naut
I have to do The egg- o- Naut for my SO how do i keep the egg from breaking when it starts to go in the air on the bottle. my teacher said when the bottle goes up weight gets added. is there a way to prevent this? How? how many wings do u put on it to mKE IT GO HIGHER/

Re: Egg-O-Naut
the most likely time for the egg to break is on impact with the ground, not on the way up, so don't worry about that
for fins, i usually use either 3, 4, or 6, but the number makes it more stable, it doesn't necessarily add height, if you want the rocket to go higher, then you need to angle the fins, so the rocket spins, or adjust how much water you are using.

You're going to need to be able to understand this a bit more.Jeremy_Ring wrote:I have to do The egg- o- Naut for my SO how do i keep the egg from breaking when it starts to go in the air on the bottle. my teacher said when the bottle goes up weight gets added. is there a way to prevent this? As the rocket accelerates upward, the force "pushing" it downward in relation to the surface it is sitting on will increase. This is because according to Newton's second law, Force = mass * acceleration, the force increases as the acceleration does.
This would result in the egg being subjected to more g-forces, much in the way that anything launched on an actual rocket is subjected to g-forces (for example, the space shuttle crews feel about 3 times as heavy as they really are during certain points of the launch, and Alan Shepard felt more than 10 [although Freedom 7's greatest g-forces came from deceleration, as it was a ballistic trajectory]).
There's no way to minimize this. All teams will be subjected to roughly the same g-forces, and there's nothing you can do to alleviate them except reduce the acceleration of the rocket. This is definitely less than desirable, as you lose height and therefore time.
The egg is very unlikely to break due to this though, unless there's something wrong with it. I'd suggest making sure the egg is padded on all sides though, as this will reduce some of the shock the egg is subjected to.
It's really only going to break if it hits the ground too hard though. While accelerating upward it should be fine.
Now, as to your "wing" question...there's no good answer. If by "wings" you mean "fins," or even actual wings, there's nothing you can put on it to make it go higher. Since all force must come from the water/air combination, the only ways to increase height are to decrease mass and decrease drag, assuming you have the ideal amount of water. Fins simply make the rocket more stable and more likely to go straight up. Wings would be present only in a glider-type solution, in which the egg would descend with a glider to maximize time aloft. Pulling off a glider would be EXTREMELY tricky though, and probably unreliable.
You'll want at least three fins to ensure stability.

Just look through previous pages on this thread and you should find answers to all your questions Jeremy_Ring.
This is a great year because I will beat Owen and Saad in Egg-O-Naut and the New York Jets are a playoff team this year because Brett Farve is the Best Quarterback on the Earth. 7-3. Better and better every week. The Yankees are getting C.C. Sabbathia.

How is everyone building their parachutes?
