Perfection. That’s what it’s about. It’s those moments. When you can feel the perfection of creation. The beauty of physics, you know, the wonder of mathematics. The elation of action and reaction, and that is the kind of perfection that I want to be connected to.

Zaroff' also "loved Lazarus; he was the finest hound in [his] pack" before Lazarus drowned in quicksand.

I understand this clue...
Foe-Zen-Dog
Rainsford was Zaroff's foe
Buddah has zen
Lazarus was a dog
I protect myself.

I approached my next target carefully. He was vulnerable, out in the open. I took out a pistol and aimed for him. He just smiled and aimed a pistol back towards me.
"If you drop the gun, I won't shoot," he told me.
I did. He did not shoot. fozendog has correctly protected himself.

Your next clue:
- -- ...- --. .. -
BWhat do they all have the same of?
AThe Lady died with him but was not born until long after, in 1954.
Correction: A + B + [space] + [Two letters, both uppercase]
If the Lady were real, she would not have died 362 years before she was born.
