pretty sure fishman100 meant "geology" as in planetary geology not geography. The nationals test last year was heavy on geology/ remote sensing. My team loved it. They came out raving about the awesome map. The thing is, I had that Mars map and a couple different Mars based tests that we never used because I thought Mr. Winter wouldn't go with the Mars theme again ( that's what it was the last time Solar System cycled through). Oh well, my guys still pulled off 9th place.

This year, the rules states that you have to demonstrate knowledge of "Geologic characteristics of planets, dwarf planets, Gaseous planets (bold = new to this year)" etc.

And congrats on the 9th place! Last year, we weren't at Nats but we took the test...do you know where to find the Martian Map???

We thought it was easy. Yet somehow we got 30th????

Unlike last year's test, pretty much no geology.

The test was split up into 3 parts: 1) Resonance lab, 2) Reading comprehension, and 3) short answer.

there was no major theme but part 1 had 4 "plates", aka images to read.

the short answer part was basic questions like "The search for planet X was initiated because of which planet's gravitational attraction", etc. (I think i actually combined 2 questions there )

Jupiter is so massive (for the solar system) that it has enough pressure to make hydrogen an oily liquid. Saturn does too, but not as much.

A little summer prep for RFS (Reach for the Stars) - the July issue of of Scientific American has a nicely detailed 2 page H-R Diagram. Check it out.

One: scientific american is commonly an oxymoron outside of scioly.
