Re: New Jersey 2020
Regionals is not an indicator for how a team will perform at states. South was stacked at regs while North were the complete opposite of stacked. States will probably be similar to the invitationals that North and South both participated.

Re: New Jersey 2020
ok yeah but north consistently doing better at invitationals than south shows that north will do better at states imo. i never said that states is like an invy, but it's def more like states than regs if states runs smoothlybromothymol wrote: ↑February 25th, 2020, 5:44 pmregs wasn't stacked

Re: New Jersey 2020
Hi everyone!
Since states is coming up soon, I made a prediction contest for the NJ State Tournament (Division C):
https://forms.gle/3wiAH2tqM8ijfgvY9
(Format copied partially from @Giantpants!)
Rules: Please do not include a team more than once! If a team is accidentally included twice, none of the placements you predicted for that team will be counted. If more than one form is submitted, the latest one will be counted.
Scoring: Your final score will be the sum of your team score and your event score. If you choose not to predict events, you will only be included on the team score leaderboard.
Your team score will be the sum of your predictions for all 10 placements. For each placement, you will be given max(12-(ln(x+1)*5), 0) points, where x is the absolute value of the difference between the team’s actual placement and your predicted placement. If a team is accidentally included twice, none of the placements you predicted for that team will be counted.
Your event score will be the sum of your predictions for all 25 events (2 trials). For each event, you will be given max(5-(ln(x+1)*1.75), 0) points, where x is the absolute value of the difference between the team’s actual placement and your predicted placement.
I chose to scale the points this way in order to decrease the amount of ties and emphasize consistency rather than luck.
Good luck!
Edit 2/28 11:42 PM - I have removed the 5x limit on predicting teams for 1st place. Historically, there have always been teams that have done better than 5 golds, so I don't see a point in making this restriction.
