If you wanted to be SUPER SUPER SUPER safe you could learn them, but I would say the chances of that being on a test would be small.jcms science boy wrote:do i NEED 2 know theories??? because it doesn't say tat in the rule/study guide book... if so, is there any other thing i should learn that is not in the rule/study guide book?

Re: Reach For The Stars
The things you really need to focus on more are the life cycle of a star and stellar classification. Knowing what types of stars the stars on the list are doesn't hurt either.

Re: Reach For The Stars
Images, Images Images. Of DSO's, of Constellations, of objects in various stages of stellar evolution. Can you identify the constellations in photographs of the night sky? On a unlabelled star chart?

Re: Reach For The Stars
What's a good way to quickly learn the constellations? Or, is this impossible?
LOL. I'm panicked, because our state competition is in... what, two weeks? and I only can spot Orion and "one of the dippers" ((Which one? I dont know!!!))

Re: Reach For The Stars
Try to relate the easy constellations like Orion to the constellations around it, and then do the same for those once you've mastered them, and so on. That's the way I find easiest, but it may not work for you, so try out several different tactics and see which one works best.

Re: Reach For The Stars
It's most likley the big dipper [ursa major] that you see. The little dipper is much smaller and more dim. Where I come from, the only part of the little dipper i can see is polaris, the north star, and the 'guard stars'Suzumebachi wrote: and I only can spot Orion and "one of the dippers" ((Which one? In my opinion, the best way to learn constellations is to go outside with a star chart and use it to identify constellations in the sky.

Yes, practice is key as well.
