That's exactly correct. We took the MagLev rules and removed the things people had trouble with: the cost of the track and magnets, the inherent instability of the vehicles, the complexity of the test topics involving Electromagnetics. What's left is a very cool event that was run at something like a dozen tournaments this year in 5 different states and was extremely popular at Nationals.Unome wrote: Yeah, the first thing I thought of when I read the rules was "this is Maglev in B."

That wasn't meant to be a criticism. I've heard a lot about Maglev being annoying, but I don't actually know any specifics, since I've never really looked at the event in any detail.chalker wrote:That's exactly correct. Re: Events 2016-2017
While you are leaking information, what are the chances that Game On will be discontinued?chalker wrote:There was a significant change coming out of the rules committee meeting, which is going to start to leak out I suspect. Hence I think it best I comment on it here: it is likely that Sounds of Music will NOT be back as an event next year. Hovercraft will likely take it's place (and be both a B and C division event).
Some people are going to be very happy about this, others are going to be disappointed. The reasoning is that the committee wants to SIGNIFICANTLY revamp the rules for Sounds of Music, and we felt it best to run it as a trial first with the revamped rules. We'll be working more on those this summer.
Assuming this does happen, I've gotten commitments from many people to run Sounds as a trial event next year at their tournaments. I'm 99% sure we'll run it at the National Tournament as a trial too.

If you still are sharing, will the scrambler rules see any significant change? Ex curved path, different dimensionschalker wrote:0.00001%sciduck wrote:

Re: Events 2016-2017
Different dimensions wouldn't change much in terms of scores, as more experienced teams will know what to build, regardless of dimensions, but a curved path would level the playing field for all competitors, however, the curved path was only tried in Div. C, I believe. In any event, if the rules change, a re-build will be necessary.Entomology wrote:If you still are sharing, will the scrambler rules see any significant change? For what it's worth, Wheeled Vehicle B also had curved paths in its second year (2014-2015)Zioly wrote:...however, the curved path was only tried in Div. C, I believe...

Yes to both, but we are still discussing so I'm not going to jump the gun and share anything.

Is Microbes confirmed for 2016-17? They were talking about it in the SSSS forum and I was wondering if I missed something.
