That did not happen last year. As long as it was rotating, the device was considered good. If it ran out while up, they stopped the time, but as long as it dislodged while still rotating, the device was considered good. Super frustrating.[/quote]
At our Regional, a Helicopter has gotten stuck twice in the past two years. The way they score it, the time is stopped when either: the helicopter touches the ground, or the rotors stop spinning.

Yes, but that was allowed at all OH invitationals last year, they only implemented this new rule this year.

I'm honestly not sure how Solon, Mentor, Centerville, and Mason will do relative to each other. This will be a very interesting States.

There's such a long gap between Regionals and States that all teams can improve rapidly. I think Solon will still escape out of states, but anything is certainly possible. Though Mason is really good, I'm going to guess that Mason will get a solid 4th place. I have a feeling Centerville will get 1st or 2nd, they always perform the best at states. As for Solon, I can see anything from 1st to 3rd, and with Mentor, I think 2nd or 3rd is likely.
Of course these are all guesses and I have really nothing to back my thoughts. It will be exciting and nerve wracking to see what happens!

I am not sure how it will work this year in regards to the rules. The Invitationals have all been handled differently, although it has been nowhere near the issue that it is at States. The best thing to do is move the event and avoid the game of chance that is played with that event. In a state like Ohio, every point matters and having a wild card out there can really impact placement results. Oh well! Time will tell and everyone will deal with it if there is no change of venue. At least we are all in the same boat.

I would think the logistics of all the events are all pretty well nailed down. If not, I would not wait to make a request. Making schedules and reserving locations happen many weeks in advance for any event at OSU.

We know someone who made a request and it was denied and the event supervisor indicated that it was the first time they had heard anyone suggest the Field House was an issue for helicopters. It was made clear that a change of venue will not happen and that they do not see the need for a move. Let's just hope that the rules are followed and the time stops as appropriate.
