I'm making a zither and I'm using 0.20 music wire ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002A4M7L ... 011&sr=1-6). It's fairly easy to twist (granted, you need to use pliers or something). It's about the thickness of an E string on the violin (but they make thinner ones tooo)... Oh and the fact that there are 234.25' is goodvennowsah wrote:What size and type of strings would you guys recommend for a lyre? I got some steel strings at the local music store, but it was very stiff, and hard to wrap around the screws I'm using for as tuners. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Re: Sounds of Music B
I used steel strings for a kinor harp (similar to a lyre) last year, and it was really difficult to use as you said. Nylon fishing leader can make good string substitutes, or so I've found. Plus it's cheap and comes in large amounts so there's a lot of room for error if that's the sound you're looking for.vennowsah wrote:What size and type of strings would you guys recommend for a lyre? Thanks for the advice! I thought I would end up having to use the instrument for Regionals again, but I was able to get the strings to work today. ^_^

I say it like 'timber'... Idk if that's right though. The judges probably will know what you're talking about either way.Algorhythmic wrote:Okay, I have now officially given up on looking this up because everyone has a different answer.

Re: Sounds of Music B
The correct pronounciation is "tamber".
However, it is not spelled "tamber", or "tambre", or "timbar", or "tambir", or "timber", etc...

Re: Sounds of Music B
Okay, so does anyone know a good way to get eye screws to stay where you want then to? I have the state competition next Saturday (the 12), and me and my partner (given the fact that this is the first year our school is participating, and the fact that we only got a month the build the instruments and prepare for a number of extra events are kind of lost. Our "pegs" (aka eye screws) just will not stay in place and we are tempted to stay crying every single time we try to tune a string. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you
