That. That was irritating. This person clearly didn't read the rules.
Some other coaches (I guess it could've been the same person) did come this morning grossly unprepared...I heard horror stories of ones yelling across the hall at their students after they came late. How professional :|

Congrats, Chia! Maybe we should all meet up on that Friday- bring a buddy from your school just in case.

Fossils test supervisor I'm not sure has read the rules since the first time he ran the event. We're not sure if he puts species not on the list for purpose of elimination, or because he truly doesn't understand. We were able to deduce most of them based on names, but if any of them were actually the real answers. . . :x

Our Parkland regional was well run compared to past years here in Champaign-Urbana. We pulled out first, i placed first in all my events except heli (of all the things that could happen, one of the rotors breaks during the winding of the rubber. Not once in 20+ test flights with that copter, but now???) and we also won the Spirit award!!

Omg state is in 34 days on the dot. So much to do, yet so little time...
2011 Season Events~

Fossils (Regionals ~1st) (State ~6th)
Towers (Regionals ~1st) (State ~3rd)
Helicopter (Regionals -3rd gahhh) (State ~5th)
Wind Power (Regionals ~1st) (State ~3rd TIERED!)

Hooray for getting everything i wanted?

That was me and my helicopter; I've tested it several times and it worked well, but when we go to launch at the actual competition, every vital joint comes off (prop hanger, rotor to wire hanger, back hook)! I think it all went downhill in 8th grade when my coach scheduled our Wright Stuff flight at states at 9:11.

Wouldn't that be fun :D based on last year, though, I think our whole team just chills in our hotel lobby in our pj's, studying on friday XD
I will be testing my helicopters in the maaaagical armory, though... maybe kjhsscioly and I could meet you guys then? Oh well, we can figure it out later.

I just woke up :? yeah, regionals made me tired... I felt like I was testing or running around the entire time.

On another note, they went reasonably well, but Chia beat me to that news.

I thought state was top 5, but at CLC he said Top 6 when announcing them. When Lake Forest got 6th, I had to go down to get the plaque and it was a pretty terrible feeling until he said 6th is also going.
2nd in Chem Lab, 2nd in Helicopter (40sec below our top practice score), nothing in Ornithology (tips on getting better? We used Petersons and the Smithsonian), and i got 75pts using an incomplete robot and I didnt know what I was supposed to do.
Pretty solid regional, see you guys at state i guess!

Congrats on heading to state! when announcing them. When Lake Forest got 6th, I had to go down to get the plaque and it was a pretty terrible feeling until he said 6th is also going.

Uhh, I know one of the folks who placed higher than you guys here in Div. C Ornith, and let's just say s/he could run circles around all of us. I can't ID all 180-some specimens by sight and then recite a short paragraph about each one. Ideally, you could do that. That or we could start by striking Lincolnshire off the map. That would solve a lot of problems  . We used Petersons and the Smithsonian I didn't see what the high schoolers were using, but Daniel Wright had double copies of Sibley, if I recall...which was interesting. Same as they did last year, it just isn't the guide I would've selected.), and i got 75pts using an incomplete robot and I didnt know what I was supposed to do.

I just realized that all the Avogadro results online let you compare raw scores. It's really frustrating to lose 4th in a tiebreaker :x But it was awesome to see we had Mission by 100 points, which I still can't believe.

For those who care/want to see them:
Div B Varsity: http://avogadro.ws/hosted/il-clc-vb/public/results
Div B JV: http://avogadro.ws/hosted/il-clc-jvb/public/results
Div C Varsity: http://avogadro.ws/hosted/il-clc-vc/public/results
Div C JV: http://avogadro.ws/hosted/il-clc-jvc/public/results

The numbers on top correspond to the event categories on the national site (technology, life science, whatever). Click on an event, and you can see the school, rank, students names, and raw score. Something with a .01 difference seems to be a tiebreaker.
