wat?? regionals went terrible for us...ask ktyoungster for details...to put it short, we were using open office, we never recieved a notice beforehand so we didn't really know how to use it well, the test was outrageously demanding, asking you to change excel cells into different colors, have everything in a different font and size and color (it told you EXACTLY how they wanted it tho it was pointless in my opinion) the test was VERY poorly made, quite a few errors here and there and the supervisor was correcting them during the test...isn't that not allowed? anyways, something went wrong in the supervisor's mind and he interpreted the rules as we were allowed to use TWO computers....he screamed at some teams for asking a translation of some poorly created short-short answer questions...... and to top it off, we didn't get the score sheet, you kno, the one where they give you points on how your graph was, the accuracy and stuff, we DIDN'T get it back, so we don't even kno where we went wrong..............hope state is NOTHING like this year's regionals....

Re: Compute This B
I do. I guess they kind of help because it's the same subject. But in Compute This most of the questions are random. Still, if you know the answer but can't find it on NOAA then you can get partial credit ^-^starshine wrote:Anyone doing Compute and Meteorology this year? If so, does it help in any way? I'm currently taking a practice test for compute this.

I go to school at Cerro Villa MS. A neighboring school of El Rancho Charter, a once dominating science olympiad team. Rebecca Black goes to El Rancho. It's Friday everyday there.

Re: Compute This B
So I just got back from SoCal state competition, and i just wanted to comment on how inefficient Google docs is.
5 minutes into the event: half the competitor's internet are lagging (including mine).
10-15 minutes into the event: the event supervisor is running around looking for the coordinator.\
15 minutes into the event and on: we are forced to refresh the page every time the phrase "trying to reach google..." comes up. (my partner and i refreshed the page a total of 20 times)
Final comment: Never use Google docs for any event. It's incredibly slow.

Re: Compute This B
I seriously doubt it was an issue with Google docs. Rather it was likely an issue with the local computers / network. I use Google docs a lot and have never encountered what you describe. While you could have used something like OpenOffice or MS Office which resides on the local computers, you would have still had issues with general Internet connectivity it sounds like.Insert Name Here wrote:So I just got back from SoCal state competition, and i just wanted to comment on how inefficient Google docs is.

Re: Compute This B
I agree. I use Google Docs a lot at home, for collaborative school projects and stuff like that, and it works just fine on my computer. I've only ever had problems with lag/crashing with the temperamental school network. Just a guess, but it might be that all the people trying to access the same webpages at once overwhelmed the local server.chalker wrote:I seriously doubt it was an issue with Google docs. Re: Compute This B
When i said in my final comment "Never use Google docs for any event", I did mean that the fact that about 15-30 people using it at one time will cause it to lag. But also, I just flat out hate using Google docs (mostly just spreadsheets).AlphaTauri wrote:I agree. Re: Compute This B
I agree with Insert Name Here. I was in this event in Cali as well, and it was possible but very annoying to get the task done, with all the refeshing. I'm distancing myself from Google Spreadsheets because it can't make a two y-axis graph, and that we couldn't get the scatter plot to display the data how we wanted it to, which probably cost us a medal. (so close!)

Re: Compute This B
Is faking data better than getting actual data? Because some teams apparently faked the data and beat us, which is interesting.
Ok, that's a bad question. But how is that possible?
