Re: Ecology B/C
Is there anything i shold know for states? I (by some miracle) managed to memorize the power point. I know food chains/webs and I know the symbiosis(commensalism, parasitism, predation, mutualism, etc.) any help is appreciated greatly.

95% of teens would scream if Justin Beiber was about to jump of the top of the Empire State Building. If you are in the 5% that would grab a seat and some popcorn and yell JUMP! JUMP! JUMP! post this into your sig.
possible events:ecology, fossils, pentathlon, experimental design

Read the Ecology Wiki, then look through the rules and see what you don't know. You can find a lot of detailed sites just by googling something.littlea53 wrote:Is there anything i shold know for states? I (by some miracle) managed to memorize the power point. Re: Ecology B/C
when they say community interactions i think that's what they do but look at the ecology handout because it tells you (on soinc.org)
to calculate population growth, add current population, immigration, and births, then subtract deaths and emigration, and subtract that from the old population
no, sorry, you can't say that, under almost every circumstance, that is.

When they say community interactions, are they referring to Symbiotic Relationships n' such i.e. commensalism, parasitism, predation, mutualism, etc.?
How exactly do you calculate population growth?
Can I pull it off by just saying that the carrying capacity is essentially the population of a species that is need to "saturate" the environment with the species?
WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW ABOUT TUNDRA AND TAIGA?

Ahh, sorry. We weren't available today b/c she had a faculty meeting, but thanks so much for the help. Wish us luck!quizbowl wrote: Don't worry, South Woods kid! Syosset is here to help!
Community interactions are the symbiotic relationships
population growth: G=rn (growth = rate of growth times population) OR population growth = (births + immigration) - (deaths + emigration)
Carrying capacity is the maximum number of organisms that an environment can support with enough resources and room.
Tundra and taiga? Just really read the training manual. --> http://www.soinc.org/sites/default/file ... T_2011.pdf
I might be coming over to help tomorrow (and bringing fossils) so i'll try to help you there.

Re: Ecology B/C
We got 5th place in our regionals only because we didn't study our local ecology. Will state be more focus on the field of ecology or ecology in your home state?

Re: Ecology B/C
Well, unless your state has taiga and tundra, I wouldn't think that it'd be necessary to focus on local ecology.Kovu wrote:We got 5th place in our regionals only because we didn't study our local ecology. Will state be more focus on the field of ecology or ecology in your home state?
Some event writers are just bad and throw in things they're not supposed to. And really, there's nothing you can do about it. If it's a disadvantage for you, it's a disadvantage for everyone else (except the lucky team or two who decided to study that topic even though it's not in the description).
