What would they change it to? The solar system? Star and constellation identification? I wouldn't be surprised if it was kept the same, even though I agree it has been kept the same for too long. I would really like to see it change to identification though, because that's my strength. :D

Galaxies and Cosmology. The event is meant to be run on 3-year cycles.
Old Events:
Astronomy, Remote Sensing (Both Mars and Global Warming), Dynamic Planet (Oceanography/Earthquakes and Volcanoes), It's About Time, Technical Problem Solving, and I really don't want to count, but did fail at-Fermi Questions.

The topic is going to be variable stars next year, this year's rules say that Epsilon Aurigae is going to be a DSO again next year. Not to mention the National Director is a member of the AAVSO (American Association of Variable Star Observers).

Well, it says that epsilon aurigae will be covered, but overall they could have a different focus. Plus they could work that into Galaxies and Cosmology anyway.

What are the cycles? Are there any others besides variables and the one I just mentioned?

Stellar Evolution, it ended in 2006. Was Galaxies and Cosmology before that, I believe. Might be wrong on the 2nd part.

They released the 2009 Astronomy National Test here: http://www.tufts.edu/as/wright_center/p ... astro.html

This test seems pretty easy...the Ohio State test was much, much harder.
