Elevated Bridge B/C

well its not really that hard just dont use big wood like 1/4 just stick to like a 1/8 square balsa size and dont over truss ur bridge and dont use unessessary lateral bracing i just use 1/16 for that in just a couple of pieces.

oh and only use lateral bracing on the top compression peice cuz its not needed on tension pieces

yeah usually i dont use "big wood", i usually only use 1/8 pieces. and i dont use the generic trusses. my bridge still istn that light

Well, we has State yesterday.
Peter's (my son's) bridge weighed in at 10 gr. It held full full load. It was rock solid at 1500. So, there's another 1500 for the record book- it absolutely can be done. It was the same as his Regional bridge (which weighed 14.8 and held 15kg) (built in the same jigs), except a couple members that were bass in the regional bridge were switched to laminated balsa

Question is, of course, what is the potential of the design. Maybe we'll get time to test it w/ a safety tower on it this week. My guess/gut feel is around 1,750. I'll post when we do, and will also get pics and some more info within the next week or so.

i know full well that the bridges can hold the full load, but doing it with a weight of 10 grams seems pretty hard to me. thanks for the post.

Why wet sand? At all of my comps (bridge, and boom last year) there was just regular dry sand.. Are they too cheap to get a little more sand or was it something else?

i would imagine wet sand is harder to pour? and they could use less of it (sand) right? because it weighs heavier

I've heard of an instance when this has happend before. They give you wet sand to pour for no apparant reason. I dont' think it would happen at states since state competition are better run.
